![]() But don't worry, it's just a result of production and being compressed inside of plastic wrap, and the smell will dissipate after a day or so. When you open your DreamCloud mattress fresh out of the box, it won't smell so fresh (think new car smell). It also helps keep the mattress from sagging prematurely. Hybrid mattresses tend to be more durable than all-foam mattresses because they contain a steel coil base, which is (as you can imagine) more durable than foam. Thanks to DreamCloud's thick pocketed coil system in the base of the mattress, it has a durable design that should last you around 10 years or more. Instead, outside factors like your pajamas or room temperature will probably play a bigger role in how hot or cold you sleep. It's more temperature neutral - I didn't overheat sleeping on this bed but it's not actively cooling me down like the Purple Hybrid. It doesn't sleep hot like a stereotypical memory-foam mattress, but it doesn't sleep cold either. I mentioned how the DreamCloud hybrid mattress is the Goldilocks of mattress firmness levels, and I could say the same about its temperature, too. This is important if you're somebody who sleeps all the way to the side of the mattress, whether it's because you sleep with another person or you just like living on the edge (this is the mattress equivalent of a dad joke). The edge support is a little wonky right out of the box, but give the mattress a day or so to fully inflate and the edges will feel sturdy and supportive. In that case, I'd recommend a memory-foam mattress entirely made from foam. The only exception would be if you're an incredibly light sleeper whose most important feature in a mattress is 10 out of 10 motion isolation. The motion isolation isn't stellar on this mattress, but I don't think this should deter you from getting this bed if its other qualities are worth it to you. To each their own and we all have different preferences, but the build quality of the DC mattress has clearly taken a step backwards. There's some bounce and motion transfer if your partner gets out of bed or swiftly changes positions, but that's hard to completely avoid with a hybrid mattress as thick as the DreamCloud. I had a chance to try the original version and found it to have a unique feel and be of reasonable value but after seeing the new version I wouldn't even consider it. I've also read threads here of many customers complaining about their return process and how unresponsive their customer service is once you decide to initiate a return. There are some recent reviews on youtube of the revised mattress which show what the new version looks like. The top of the mattress which used to be quite tight with the hand tufting giving it the appearance of puffy clouds is now flat and loosely wrinkled looking very cheap and unfinished. The mattress remains the same price and the user reviews from those that have received the new mattress have been overall quite negative about the changes. The new version was intentionally made to be softer in feel, but implemented many changes including eliminating the cashmere cover, hand tufting, and its latex layer all of which would result in significant production cost reduction. About two months ago they changed the design considerably and began shipping the new "improved" version without even mentioning any change on their website. The DreamCloud mattress was thought to be a pretty good value in its original incarnation and was considered to be a medium firm design. I'm tempted to pull the trigger, but it is scary ordering a bed in the box when I've never laid on it before! Anyone have any experiences with them? I'm expecially interested in thier customer service and if they make returning a hassle. The DreamCloud keeps coming up in my search, seems to have decent reviews, and at $999 it seems like a great deal. We are cheap, and both of these mattresses are a bit more than we want to spend, so I've been trying to shop comparables with similar keywords. Both seemed softer than most of the other hybrids we tried, but were not the absolute softest. We really liked both the Casper Wave Hybrid and the Beautyrest Hybrid Gladney. ![]() My husband is a heavier weight back sleeper - and while he isn't picky at all, I know he wouldn't be happy on the softest mattress. I'm a light (ish) weight side sleeper with hip issues, so I really like soft mattresses for the pressure point relief. ![]() My husband and I just spent 2 days shopping around for mattresses and we are leaning towards a Medium (Luxury Firm?) Hybrid Mattress.
